I'm so glad, that I was not responsible of putting together a compilation disc with the best Of Greensleeves Records, since it must be a real challenging task with hundreds of albums to pick from – all released by the major label in reggae music within the last 30 years. What a headache! On the other hand with so many fine productions to pick from, a compilation disc will without doubt always end up as a big success.
Just by checking the line up of artists on this double CD counting such big names like Shabba Ranks, Beenie Man, Shaggy, Buju Banton, Sizzla, Bounty Killer, Ninjaman, Elephant Man, Eek A Mouse, Gregory Isaacs, Yellowman, Frankie Paul, Garnett Silk and Beres Hammond just to name a few, it’s easy to see, that you can’t go wrong with this disc. Taking in consideration, that it’s some of the best tracks ever made by these artist one could only admire Greensleeves contribution to reggae music. Just like Motown Records meant a lot in the rise of early soul music and Studio One played the same vital role in the development of pioneering reggae music, Greensleeves has taken the music even further by promoting dancehall music up through the nineties and further. 30 tracks on the two discs are celebrating Greensleeves Records 30th anniversary with an outstanding compilation with absolutely “no fillers, just thrillers.”
Still though there are crucial tracks from the Greensleeves catalogue that I miss on this compilation, but I guess I just can’t get enough. Maybe Greensleeves could make it up to I’n'I by presenting yet another The Best Of Greensleeves Records Part 2?
