Ragga Ragga Ragga 2009
The everlasting Ragga Ragga Ragga-series from
This has nothing to do with the series itself, which actually is very on edge with things in Jamaica as it is right now. But the type of Dancehall or Ragga (which is the British word genre) is actually quite annoying. Many of the rhythms sounds very much alike, and the versatility of the artists voicing on the tracks are not nearly as interesting as the previous edition of 2008, which ironically features pretty much the same lineup of artist, give and take a little – where naturally most of them with a current deal with VP Records.
There are some big tunes on the album though this is something even I can't deny. The anthem Nuh Bleach Wid Cream by gangster crooner Mavado and Vybz Kartel's Life Sweet are excellent. But then it just keeps on going downward until we reach Corrupt by Bounty Killer - a smash track, which proves that the "killer nuh dead."
I would say, if you passed on Dancehall with the appearance of Stephen McGregor's unique sound, then this release is definitely not for you. The tracks on Ragga Ragga Ragga 2009 are very monotone in style and really more polished hip-hop and dance, than Dancehall.
I am for one not too fund of this release, unless you take CD 2 which is a compilation of 15 years of Ragga Ragga Ragga which is great - but of no importance if you already have been buying the series from day one.
