Strictly The Best Vol. 39
A little late, but a better late than never review is up for VP Records's release Strictly The Best Vol. 39 a tough and a great taste of the best Dancehall and Reggae from 2008.
VP Records has for a long time been releasing this series, which until the 2000s was a double compilation with Dancehall on one release and Reggae on another release - but both releases simultaneously. Now a days the release is occasionally a dual release - but this time it's only a one disc release, which might be a cause of the lack of big tunes coming out of Jamaica these days - and the fact, that VP somehow has gotten too big to try taking risks or the timing isn't just right. I don't know - but the fact is, that Strictly The Best Vol. 39 contains 17 tracks of some of the best tunes from 2008.
The two major tracks of the album are Nuh Linga and Sweep by Elephant Man - who is back stronger than ever, after a misfit album from P. Diddy. These two tunes are worth the album - but there is more. Sean Paul has teamed up with rogue deejay Mr. Evil in the killer dance tune Back It Up, Serani's Playing Games on the notorious Unfinished Business rhythm. On the Reggae side of the album, one tracks has grown on me - and turned out to be a fantastic song. The nice song Just As I Am by returning group L.U.S.T. over-shines the rest of the Reggae songs - and really is adequate for me.
Strictly The Best Vol. 39 is a great album and a treat for you who just wants the best of two genres. The fillers on the album are good - and fits in perfectly - and there are so many good songs on the album.
