Turbo Charged
Two cousins ruled the dancehalls in Jamaica in the mid-eighties. Tenor Saw and Nitty Gritty were in heavy demand by both sound systems owners, dancehall promoters and producers island- and worldwide and their special Waterhouse singing style gave fuel to the rising digitalisation of reggae music. In 1986 Nitty Gritty released a real masterpiece on Greensleeves Records titled Turbo Charged. Riding some hard Prince Jammy riddims like Stalag, Sleng Teng and Tempo this album was one of the best that year. Adding to these crucial riddims other bombshells like Java, Satta and Rockfort Rock the album had to become an instant classic.
Originally the album came out on vinyl only, but now it is also available on the CD format. Greensleeves Records have digitally remastered the album and have added four other Jammy produced tracks by Nitty Gritty as a nice bonus. Nitty Gritty later moved his operations to New York, where he was tragically shot dead in 1991.
Turbo Charged is a great testimony of his works and still untouchable.
