Dancehall 101 vol. 5
I thought that the VP series Dancehall 101 was long gone, and never to be surfacing on the market again after hiatus it’s been in the the last seven years. But the reggae industry tends to surprise you – and I was indeed surprised when not one edition – but two new editions of Dancehall 101 suddenly were in my mail three weeks ago. Volume 5 and 6 were a reality and the surprise changed to enjoyment when I read the track list.
Dancehall 101 vol. 5 focuses on the years from 1992 to 1996 and features not only some of the biggest hits from that period, but the hits in new and improved mastering using high tech studios to get the best sound around - and when the floor killer Action by Terror Fabulous and Nadine Sutherland roared from my personal sound system followed by the big tune Anything (Remix) from Snow feat. Nadine Sutherland, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Terror Fabulous and Culture Knox I was sold. This album brings back memories. But many more tunes are available on the album like Love Me Brownin’ (Buju Banton), World Dance (Beenie Man), Dun Wife (Mad Cobra) using the same pattern as the Flintstones theme.
If you like the sound from the mid-90s, this is absolutely something for you – and the new sound really makes the tunes seem new, crisp and fresh even though some of the are almost 20 years old. Dancehall 101 vol. 5 is not for the weak souls.
