Dancehall 101 vol. 6
As I mentioned in the review of Dancehall 101 vol. 5 it’s been a while since the latest installment of the series hit the streets. Seven years to be exactly – but now it seems like VP has revived the series and thank you for that – because it now gives one the possibility to obtain your long lost vinyl singles in new digital mastering versions with a fresh and crisp sound.
Dancehall 101 vol. 6 continues like vol. 5 to find the best tunes from the beginning of the 1990s and forth, dusting them off and giving us the best tunes in a new clear sound – and track one of Vol. 6 is a long personal favorite of mine – as it was in fact the first single I ever got – back in 1991. Shabba Ranks with Trailor Load A Girls – and what a way to start a compilation. The track list just continues with big tunes from Buju Banton, a young Sean Paul, Papa San, Ninja Man, Tiger, Tanya Stephens and so on. It’s so refreshing to year the young Yami Bolo in When A Man’s In Love on the Stalag riddim in true Waterhouse style and Living Dangerously from Bounty Killer and Barrington Levy.
Dancehall 101 vol. 6 is slightly better than vol.5 as it have more big tunes simple as that – but while you’re figuring out which of the two albums you’re going to by – simply take them both – they are well worth it – and resembles a golden age of dancehall.
