Strictly The Best Vol. 41

While Strictly The Best 40 focuses on the most interesting reggae releases of 2009, Strictly The Best 41 takes a stance on the interesting dancehall releases of 2009. And quite contrary to previous STB releases, the first three tracks on the 41st installment of the series is on the same rhythm called Good Life produced by Serani from Daseca – but release on Live Up Records.

Good Life features the smash hit I Am Blessed from Mr. Vegas which has caused waves from Jamaica to Germany and the US. Vybz Kartel and Mavado are also featured on the rhythm with Dollar Sign and Mocking Bird – but they never reaches the same standard as I Am Blessed. Besides I Am Blessed, the rest of the tunes are not chart toppers, but none the less they seem to work on this compilation, which seems more Jamaican than the last dancehall versions of Strictly The Best. There is even space for new artists like G Whiz, Laden and WASP. (recently signed to VP Records) And it’s simply great to hear a new big tune from Ding Dong (Man A Gallis) who rose to fame with his Bad Man Forward tune three years ago.

Strictly The Best 41 is still crossover, was the vast majority of VP Releases from 2008 and 2009 – but still more true to the Jamaican roots with raw Dancehall without too many US flavors.
