Jah Is My Navigator
A friend of mine once told me, that it’s quite ironic that you have to get dragged through 3-4 albums of poor Luciano albums before you get to one good album from the Messenjah. And luckily this is my time, because the new album from Luciano entitled Jah Is My Navigator is sure one of the good ones.
Let’s get one thing straight - I love Luciano’s voice - and often I really dislike his songs, because he has a tendency to be too soft and too creamy if you understand. He can be almost as sticky as molasses. But then you put on Jah Is My Messenger with the usual, “oh well yet another album from him” in mind, and get as surprised as you were disappointed in advance. Because the album is not only good - it’s brilliant - and Roots Reggae of very high quality, thanks to Dean Fraser and his Cannon Productions.
Jah Is My Navigator is a product of a fantastic singer and a fantastic songwriter, and it spans from brand new tunes like Trod On, on Prince Allah’s The Stone rhythm and the opening track For I to brilliantly cover versions of Peter Tosh’s I’m The Tuffest feat. Andrew Tosh and Bob Marley’s Jah Live.
At last a great album from Luciano, which I will be listening to over and over again, as it simply grows on you. If you need just one Luciano album from the last few years - this is the one!
