13.10.08 :: Alton Ellis Has Passed Away

We regret to inform you that another legendary singer in Reggae, and especially Rocksteady has passed away. Alton Ellis died in a London hospital late Friday evening, after he was put in life support. Ellis died at 64.

Alton Ellis' nickname was Mr. Rock Steady, as he was on of the founding fathers of the Rocksteady genre, where he mainly recorded for the Studio One label along side Ken Boothe. Last year he was diagnosed with Cancer, which eventually weakened him in such a degree that his body could not take it anymore.
