30.01.08 :: Greensleeves Sold for ¤4 mill.
Zest Group PLC has accepted VP Records' offer and has agreed to sell Greensleeves Records to VP Records (UK) Ltd for 6.13 million Dollars (approximatively 4 millions Euros), because initiatives at Greensleeves have not produced expected returns.
This is a little less than what Zest bought the label for 1½ years ago. This means goodbye to one of the most respected labels in Reggae music, which a long proud tradition of releasing good Reggae music, in particular Roots reggae.
And at the same time, this mean hello to a monopoly alike recording business in Reggae music, with one major leader VP Records.
We wish both Greensleeves and VP Records the best of luck in the future!
29.01.08 :: Reggae Industry Fears the VP Acquisition
The Reggae music industry are expressing concerns about the coming acquisition of Greensleeves - as they fear that VP Records now have the monopoly.
An artist formerly affiliated with VP Records, said in an interview "This Is Horrible News" others had no comment and wished to formula a response on the matter, before saying anything.

28.01.08 :: VP Records Acquires Greensleeves
Today the largest Reggae label VP Records has acquired the British label Greensleeves Records, which means that the majority of all reggae publishing deals including Like Glue by Sean Paul and Pon De River, Pon De Bank by Elephant Man now are in the hands of VP Records. VP Records has officially given Zest Group an offer for Greensleeves.
Greensleeves was founded in London in 1977, and has through had major releases by prominent artists like Sean Paul, Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Shaggy and Yellowman.
Greensleeves will remain as a brand under the VP family. We wish both VP Records and Greensleeves the best of luck.
28.01.08 :: Ali Campbell Leaves UB40
The lead-singer Ali Campbell of the popular reggae band UB40 has quit after 30 years as member and songwriter for the band.
The decision from Campbell has been underway for a while - due to what he claims to be, intolerable management issues. UB40 is one of the best selling reggae bands, with numerous hit singles - and an a total record sales of 55 mio. copies.
Their best known hits are Red Red Wine, Kingston Town, I Got You Babe (feat. Chrissy Hynde) and Can't Help Falling In Love.
25.01.08 :: Aidonia: Out Of Jail And Into The Studio
Aidonia, who was incarnated for being involved in a drive by shooting, was granted a bail on January 23.
Aidonia has been in the studio ever since, were he has been recording as single with Vybz Kartel and upcoming deejay Black Ryno who is a member of the so-called Portmore Empire. He has also recorded a single about his time in jail, which is produced by Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor of Big Ship.
The working title is sofar Jail Story - and is set to be mixed and released this weekend. Aidonia's next court date in on February 1 - where he will be charged for illegal firearms possiession and shooting on intent.
